What are backlinks?

Backlinks are links that go from one website to a page on another website (sometimes referred to as “inbound links,” “incoming links,” or “one-way links”). Google and other top search engines view backlinks as “votes” for a certain page. Pages with lots of backlinks typically score well in organic search results.

Backlinks essentially serve as website votes. Each of these votes informs search engines that the content is worthwhile, reliable, and practical.

Therefore, the more of these “votes” you have, the higher Google and other search engines will rank your website.

The association between keyword-rich anchor text and better rankings for that term was really discovered in a recent industry study.
Avoid using excessively keyword-rich anchor text. In fact, Google’s algorithm includes a filter known as “Google Penguin.”

Google wants to know that two websites have something in common when one connects to another.

This makes sense when you consider that if you recently wrote an article about running a marathon and had sites about fishing or universities linking back in comparison to sites about running or fitness, the ones about fitness would carry much more weight to show that you have authority in the area of marathons.

The Site Health score is based on the number of errors and warnings found on the website when the pages are crawled. Errors have the highest negative impact, and notices aren’t really a big deal.
